About The Position

The Labor and Delivery unit consists of a 24 Bed unit with LDRP/Postpartum and triage rooms. We follow AWHONN standards for nursing and have a strong spirit of teamwork working together to care for high-risk Moms from throughout the UP. We are a collaborative provider who values nurse input and relationships, and we are challenged mostly in finding experienced staff and cyclically increased census requiring more staff.

Requirements

  • State of Michigan RN license.
  • Associate degree from an accredited nursing school (bachelor's degree preferred).
  • Basic Life Support Health Care Provider (BLS-HCP).
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) (within 1 year).
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Provider (NRP) (within 1 year).

Responsibilities

  • Performs plan of care intervention, including medication administration, specimen collection, clinical treatments, as well as other medical care treatment.
  • Documents patient care given.
  • Monitors, records, and communicates patient condition as appropriate to care team, physician, patient, and family.
  • Assists patients with performing activities of daily living, including personal hygiene, elimination, nutrition, and ambulation.
  • Collaborates as needed across disciplines to coordinate patient care, including patient transfer, discharge, referral, and spiritual/psychosocial support needs.
  • Evaluates learning needs of patient and/or family and provides patient/family education appropriate to age, culture, condition, and circumstances.
  • Works as an advocate for the physical and emotional well-being of the patient.
