Registered Nurse (RN) Extended Recovery - Days (Casual/PRN)

Position Summary: The Extended Recovery RN, s responsible for providing high-quality patient-centered care to post-operative orthopedic patients requiring extended recovery or overnight care. This role involves monitoring patient conditions, managing pain, preventing complications, encouraging early mobility, preparing patients for their discharge home, and ensuring a safe recovery process. The Extended Recovery nurse will work closely with surgeons, anesthesiologists, hospitalists, nurse navigators, and other healthcare professionals to optimize patient outcomes and maintain safety standards. Requirements
- Education: Graduate of an accredited school/college of nursing required.
- Licensure: Registered Nursing licensed in the State of Nebraska or eligible compact state required.
- Certification: Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support Certification (ACLS) to be acquired within 90 days of hire or transfer date required.
- Experience: 1+ Years of RN (Registered Nurse) Experience preferred.
- Strong knowledge of post-operative orthopedic care, including pain management and mobility assistance
- Proficiency in IV therapy, wound care, patient assessment, and vital sign monitoring
- Ability to recognize and respond to complications including respiratory distress and infection
- Excellent communication and patient education skills
- Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
- Proficiency in electronic medical records (EMR) and documentation of patient assessments and interventions
- Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills
- Must be able to pass background check.
- We also conduct pre-employment physical and drug testing.

Responsibilities
- Patient Care and Monitoring Conduct comprehensive nursing assessments post-surgery
- Monitor vital signs, pain levels, and overall patient condition
- Administer medications including pain management protocols
- Assist patients with mobility ensuring safety and adherence to post op restrictions
- Clinical Support and Emergency Response Identify signs of post operative complications and intervene appropriately
- Provide wound care, monitor for infections, and manage post anesthesia side effects
- Initiates action to correct, prevent, and/or minimize risk(s) to the patient, family or hospital employees (i.e., falls, needle sticks, patient concerns).
- Communication and Documentation Maintain accurate and timely medical records
- Communicate effectively with patients and families, addressing concerns and providing education about recovery expectations.
- Operational Responsibilities Maintains a professional behavior in attitudes, demeanor, interactions across departments to achieve the organizations mission of providing efficient, high-quality patient centered care
- Comply with safety activities, policies and procedures and regulatory requirements such as OSHA and The Joint Commission
- Adheres to HIPPA regulations and maintains patient confidentiality
- Follow established guidelines as stated in hospital and departmental policies and procedures
- Assist in onboarding and training new nursing staff
- Employee is responsible for all other duties as assigned for which competency has been demonstrated.
