About The Position

The Endocrinology Registered Nurse (RN) provides comprehensive, patient-centered nursing care to individuals with endocrine and metabolic disorders, including diabetes, thyroid disease, osteoporosis, and other hormonal imbalances. As a member of the multidisciplinary team, the RN supports patients in managing chronic and complex conditions through education, coordination of care, and evidence-based clinical practice. This role requires strong clinical assessment skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to improving patient outcomes through compassionate care and professional collaboration.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree in Nursing required
  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing preferred
  • If prepared at the associate degree in nursing level required to enroll in a BSN program within 12 months of hire date and completion within 4 years of hire date.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of recent RN experience in an outpatient, specialty, or acute care setting required.
  • RN - Registered Nurse - State Licensure and/or Compact State Licensure in the District of Columbia required
  • CPR - Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation (includes BLS and NRP) for healthcare providers from either the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross within 90 Days required
  • Additional unit/specialty certifications may vary by department or business unit.
  • C-EFM - Electronic Fetal Monitoring from the National Certification Corporation (NCC) is required for Perinatal nurses (labor and delivery antepartum antenatal testing) within 12 months from date of hire. New graduate nurses or new to specialty nurses (labor and delivery antepartum antenatal testing) will have 15 months from date of hire to obtain the EFM certification.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience in endocrinology, diabetes management, or chronic disease education strongly preferred.
  • Familiarity with insulin pump therapy, continuous glucose monitoring (CGM), and patient education tools desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver direct patient care, including assessment, treatment planning, and follow-up for patients with endocrine and metabolic disorders.
  • Collaborate with endocrinologists, nurse practitioners, dietitians, and other healthcare professionals to develop individualized care plans.
  • Provide patient and family education on disease management, medication administration (including insulin and injectable therapies), nutrition, and lifestyle modifications.
  • Monitor patient progress, recognize changes in condition, and implement appropriate interventions or escalate concerns.
  • Perform and assist with clinical procedures such as glucose monitoring, thyroid biopsies, and medication titrations as directed.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic medical record (EMR).
  • Promote adherence to treatment plans, follow-up appointments, and laboratory testing schedules.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and ensure compliance with MedStar Health's policies, standards, and regulatory requirements.
