About The Position

Pagosa Springs Medical Center (PSMC) is seeking a skilled Emergency Department Registered Nurse (RN) to join our Emergency Department team in a part-time role providing 12-hour coverage every Friday. The ED RN provides urgent and emergent nursing care for patients presenting to the Emergency Department. This role requires strong clinical judgment, the ability to rapidly assess patient conditions, prioritize care, and collaborate closely with physicians and interdisciplinary team members to stabilize and treat patients across a wide range of medical conditions. Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited Registered Nurse (RN) program
  • Minimum two (2) years Emergency Department experience preferred
  • Current Colorado RN license in good standing
  • Current AHA BLS certification for healthcare providers
  • TNCC certification required
  • ACLS certification (or completion within 3 months of hire)
  • PALS certification (or completion within 3 months of hire)
  • Strong emergency nursing assessment and critical thinking skills
  • Ability to prioritize multiple patients in a fast-paced environment
  • Knowledge of cardiac monitoring and dysrhythmia recognition
  • Proficiency with electronic health records and basic computer systems
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
  • Fast-paced Emergency Department setting
  • Exposure to blood, bodily fluids, communicable diseases, and hazardous materials
  • Potential exposure to stressful or high-acuity situations
  • Frequent standing, walking, lifting, and patient positioning

Nice To Haves

  • BSN preferred
  • CEN certification preferred

Responsibilities

  • Triage patients using Emergency Severity Index (ESI) guidelines
  • Perform comprehensive patient assessments and prioritize care based on acuity
  • Monitor and reassess patient conditions throughout their ED stay
  • Recognize and report changes in patient condition promptly
  • Provide emergency nursing care to stabilize emergent and urgent conditions
  • Initiate treatments including IV therapy, oxygen therapy, splints, EKGs, and other interventions as ordered
  • Administer medications following the seven rights of medication administration
  • Assist with emergency procedures and provider-performed treatments
  • Manage pain control, fluid therapy, and patient monitoring
  • Collaborate with physicians, specialists, and care teams
  • Accurately document assessments, treatments, and patient progress in the electronic health record
  • Provide patient and family education regarding diagnosis, treatment plans, and follow-up care
  • Ensure discharge instructions and follow-up appointments are understood
  • Utilize National Patient Safety Goals in all aspects of patient care
  • Maintain sterile technique and infection prevention standards
  • Participate in departmental quality improvement initiatives
  • Mentor and support new nursing staff when assigned
