About The Position

The ECMO Registered Nurse provides advanced critical care to patients requiring extracorporeal life support for severe cardiac and/or respiratory failure. This role involves managing ECMO circuits, monitoring patient hemodynamics, and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to ensure safe and effective therapy.

Requirements

Graduate of an accredited nursing program (Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Nursing).
Current RN license in [State].
Basic Life Support (BLS) – Required
Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) – Required
Minimum 2 years of ICU experience required
Expertise in critical care and extracorporeal life support.
Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
Ability to work effectively in high-pressure situations.
Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
Ability to stand, walk, and assist with patient care for extended periods.
Manual dexterity for operating ECMO equipment and performing procedures.

ECMO Specialist Training/Certification – Preferred
Critical Care Registered Nurse (CCRN) – Preferred

Responsibilities

Operate and manage ECMO circuits, including initiation, monitoring, and troubleshooting.
Monitor patient status, including hemodynamics, oxygenation, and laboratory values.
Administer medications, blood products, and fluids as prescribed.
Collaborate with perfusionists, intensivists, respiratory therapists, and other team members.
Respond promptly to emergencies, including circuit complications and patient instability.
Maintain accurate documentation of ECMO parameters and patient care activities.
Educate patients’ families on ECMO therapy and provide emotional support.
Adhere to infection control, safety protocols, and facility policies.
