About Unit 3-1 Our General, Urology, and Colorectal Surgery unit is a fast-paced, patient-focused surgical unit specializing in care for individuals undergoing general, urologic, and colorectal procedures, as well as patients with renal disease, including peritoneal dialysis (PD) at the bedside. This is a Telemetry Class 2 floor, providing continuous cardiac monitoring as needed. Most patients are post-operative surgical cases arriving from PACU, with some direct admits from surgeons’ offices or the ED. Common Interventions include: Drain and wound management Wound vacs, G-tubes, J-tubes Ostomies and urostomies Peritoneal dialysis Continuous bladder irrigation Occasional chest tubes Position Purpose As an RN Leader, you will provide clinical leadership and operational oversight for Unit 3-1. You will ensure high-quality, evidence-based care delivery, mentor nursing staff, and collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to achieve optimal patient outcomes and a seamless experience.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program
  • Current NYS RN license
  • Minimum 2 years of acute care experience; prior leadership experience preferred
  • Strong communication, organizational, and critical thinking skills
  • Commitment to continuing education and maintaining licensure

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and support nursing staff in daily operations, ensuring compliance with NYS regulations and national standards of practice.
  • Coordinate staffing, assignments, and workflow to maintain safe patient ratios.
  • Serve as a mentor, educator, and resource for clinical decision-making and professional development.
  • Facilitate communication between staff, physicians, and leadership to resolve issues promptly.
  • Monitor quality metrics and implement process improvements for patient safety and satisfaction.
  • Participate in performance evaluations and contribute to staff development plans.
