About The Position

The Registered Nurse (RN -CN 1) position is located in the Medical Step Down Unit (MSD), a 12-bed unit that provides an intermediate level of care between the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and the Medical-Surgical Unit. The unit serves patients with various diagnoses, including Rapid Response patients, renal failure, advanced respiratory illness, gastrointestinal bleeding, alcohol withdrawal, pulmonary hypertension, sepsis, medication overdoses, end-of-life care, and mental status changes of unknown origin. Nurses in this unit perform critical care assessments, patient education, cardiac monitoring, hemodynamic monitoring, and manage high-risk medication initiation and titration. The role requires collaboration with interdisciplinary teams to stabilize patients with chronic and complex needs and promote wellness. Nurses must be oriented in the MICU, ACLS certified, and complete a 15-week intensive course for critical care nursing.

Requirements

• Graduate from an accredited school of nursing.
• Associate's Degree minimum required.
• Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred.
• Current OH RN License.

Responsibilities

• Prepares, implements, evaluates, revises, and coordinates interdisciplinary plan of care for each assigned patient.
• Communicates formulated plan of care to all levels of associates involved in the patient's care.
• Gives clear instructions to patients/family regarding treatment and involves family/guardian in the assessment and care.
• Identifies and responds appropriately to different patient needs resulting from behavioral health problems or cultural norms.
• Demonstrates critical thinking, accountability, flexibility, and a cooperative attitude.
• Documents the nursing process accurately and concisely, including evaluation of treatment.
• Acts as a resource person and mentor for new personnel and supplemental staff.
• Assumes responsibility for personal and professional development.
