Requirements

  • 4 Year / Bachelor's Degree, preferred.
  • Some work in education skills and risk factor modification with two years experience in cardiovascular nursing or at least five years experience in cardiovascular nursing, preferred.
  • Current RN license in appropriate state, required.
  • Practical and theoretical knowledge of all phases of routine and critical cardiac and respiratory care, with an emphasis on adult, chronic disease management.
  • Ability to perform decisively in critical situations and to incorporate many types of data.
  • Knowledge, skills, and ability to interpret information to identify each patient's requirements for care relative to his/her age-specific needs.
  • Ability to supervise exercise, monitor patients during exercise, and modify exercise prescriptions for cardio-pulmonary patients, in conjunction with exercise physiologists.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills to relate to patients, families, nurses, physicians, and other department and hospital staff.
  • Ability to successfully complete generic and department-specific skills validation and competency testing.
