About The Position

This position cares for patients before, during and after angiography, interventional, angiographic cardiac catheterization procedures. Additionally this position performs diagnostic testing for cardiovascular procedures This includes pre-procedure assessment, pre-medication, documentation of cath process, post-cath care, patient education. Scrubs in for procedures and assists other members of the cardiac catheterization laboratory. Assist in the development/maintenance department protocols.

• Knowledge of critical care nursing as normally acquired through 2 year's experience working in a Medical Center or similar setting.
• Electrophysiology skills as gained through a minimum of 1 year experience working in the electrophysiology lab environment required.
• Interpersonal skills needed to communicate successfully with individuals and groups and interact with people at all levels to communicate ideas and concepts in a clear and understandable manner.
• Knowledge and operation of intra-aortic balloon pump.

Responsibilities

• (20%)Performs nursing care of the catheterization/angiography patient.
• (20%)Operates equipment, i.e., cardiac output, hemodynamic, pacemakers/ICDs, intraaortic balloon pump, etc. Transfers patients, stocks supplies and performs basic office procedures.
• (20%)Conducts diagnostic nursing procedures according to department protocol. Procedures include stress echocardiogram, routine treadmill exam, Sestamibi stress and pharmacologic stress testing, administration of contrast in echocardiograms (agitated saline/DEFINITY)
• (20%)Evaluates and screens patients for safety prior to performing testing.
• (10%)Scrubs in for procedures with the physician.
• (10%)Records all pertinent information on appropriate data sheets.
