PRIMARY PURPOSE Provides care to assigned patient population in accordance with established protocols and multidisciplinary plan of care utilizing independent, dependent, and interdependent interventions to restore stability, prevent complications, and achieve and maintain optimal patient responses for all patients through patient centered/patient valued care.

Requirements

  • Must be a graduate from an accredited school of nursing.
  • BSN preferred.
  • If less than 9 months experience, a Nurse residency is required.
  • Must have current, valid RN license or temporary RN license from the Texas Board of Nursing; or, valid Compact RN license.
  • Must have current healthcare provider BLS for Healthcare Providers certification.
  • Must have current Advanced Life Support (ALS) or Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification upon hire or placement in the role.
  • External experienced RNs must pass (80% or above) Clinical Educations assigned challenge exam(s).
  • Internal experienced RNs changing specialties must pass (80% or above) Clinical Educations assigned challenge exam(s).

Responsibilities

  • Serves as a patient advocate, by focusing on patient needs, patient rights, confidentiality, and religious and cultural preferences.
  • Maintains positive working relationships with all Parkland internal and external customers, employees, etc.
  • Serves as a resource for patients and other healthcare team members.
  • Performs appropriate patient assessments including continuous surveillance.
  • Recognizes changes in a patient's condition and provides appropriate interventions as necessary.
  • Consults with other team members as required, notifies providers to report changes in patient condition and implements orders in a timely manner.
  • Exercises independent judgment in providing safe nursing care to the critically ill/stable patient.
  • Manages an adult ICU patient with neurological, pulmonary, cardiovascular, gastrointestinal, genitourinary disorders/conditions.
  • Provides safe medical administration using the patient's six (6) rights.
  • Completes appropriate documentation and maintains accurate and timely entries in patient care records.
  • Works with other staff in providing direction to non-nursing staff.
  • Participates in information exchanges with nursing and other Parkland staff.
