About The Position

The Registered Nurse (RN) in the Ambulatory PACU is responsible for providing comprehensive nursing care to patients in the post-anesthesia care unit. This role involves assessing patient health, developing individualized care plans, collaborating with healthcare teams, and ensuring patient safety and satisfaction throughout the recovery process. The RN utilizes clinical judgment and leadership skills to coordinate care and delegate tasks effectively within the patient care unit.

Requirements

  • Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing.
  • Current License to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse in New York State required.
  • 3+ years of PACU, ICU, or ED RN experience preferred.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing preferred; must be enrolled in an accredited BSN program within two years and obtain a BSN Degree within five years of job entry.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct patient interviews and explain policies and procedures to patients and their significant others.
  • Assess patients' gastrointestinal, cardiovascular, respiratory, renal, and neurological health status.
  • Determine mobility, sensory deficits, prostheses use, and skin condition, adjusting the plan of care as appropriate.
  • Assess pain levels and manage pain effectively.
  • Communicate and document patients' physiological health status and care plans accurately.
  • Evaluate patients' psychosocial health status and identify cultural/ethnic requirements to reduce anxiety and ensure satisfaction.
  • Develop individualized patient outcome statements and establish goals based on assessments.
  • Coordinate the cost-effective use of supplies, equipment, and medication to achieve expected outcomes.
  • Implement the plan of care and maintain constant vigilance over patient safety needs.
  • Provide emotional support to patients and their significant others during care.
  • Document all patient treatments, activities, and responses to interventions accurately.
  • Participate in discharge planning and coordinate referrals as necessary.
  • Educate patients and families about their conditions and care plans.
