Scope of Service The Ambulatory Infusion Center will provide care to adult or pediatric patients with any condition that can be treated with intravenous (IV), intramuscular (IM), or subcutaneous (SQ) medications. Education and teaching is provided to patients by an RN and includes information regarding the disease process, drugs, side effects, procedures, protocols, and complications resulting from disease and treatment. Videos, handouts and one-on-one teaching methods are utilized. Outpatient procedures include physical examinations, the insertion of central lines, PICC lines, dressing changes, simple wound care, vital signs, weight monitoring, nursing assessments, and specimen collection. Appropriate referrals are made based on the patient needs at each visit.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited School of Nursing
  • Valid Texas Nursing License or Compact Licensure/Graduate Nurse Permit Required
  • Minimum of 1 year clinical experience.
  • Knows clinical and nursing standards and practices in according with the nursing scope and standards of practice as set forth by the American Nurses Association.
  • Age specific knowledge is required when needed for appropriate patient care.
  • Has working knowledge of organizational and nursing policies.
  • Requires adequate hand/eye coordination and fine motor skills.
  • Talking and hearing is essential for communication.
  • Visual acuity is required to work with patients for observation, assessment, and electronic charting.
  • Current CPR certification from American Heart Association
  • Customer service abilities including effective listening skills.
  • Critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to multi-task in a fast paced environment
  • Ability to perform work that requires walking, sitting and standing most of the time while on duty.
  • Occasional lifting or patients with assistance is required.
  • All employees must review, sign and utilize UMC’s Standards of Excellence.

Nice To Haves

  • ACLS may be required based upon area of practice.
