About The Position

The Acute Care Float Pool at Rady Children's Hospital offers nurses the opportunity to work across a variety of specialized units, delivering exceptional care to children with a broad range of medical, surgical, and behavioral health needs. Our 85-bed Medical Unit cares for children requiring hospitalization for complex medical conditions, with a primary focus on respiratory diseases such as severe asthma, viral bronchiolitis, and pneumonia. The unit also manages patients with non-respiratory diagnoses, including diabetic ketoacidosis, metabolic disorders, and neurological conditions. With 42 inpatient beds, our Surgical Unit supports one of the busiest pediatric surgical centers on the West Coast, where more than 20,000 procedures are performed annually. Nurses in this unit gain extensive experience in managing post-operative care for a wide variety of surgical repairs. The 38-bed Hematology/Oncology Unit provides comprehensive and compassionate care to children with cancer and blood disorders, serving not only San Diego but also northern Mexico, the Pacific Islands, and southern Orange County. Nurses in this unit work alongside the renowned Rady Children's Hematology/Oncology Specialists of San Diego, offering highly specialized treatments for this unique patient population. The 17-bed Medical Behavioral Unit is the only child and adolescent medical/behavioral inpatient unit in San Diego. This unit treats young patients with medical complications arising from severe malnutrition and pediatric eating disorders, offering a unique integration of medical and behavioral care. Nurses in the acute care float pool will receive a comprehensive orientation program tailored to each unit, blending classroom education with hands-on clinical experience.
