About The Position

If you are looking for a rewarding and fulfilling career and enjoy fast paced environments this will be a good fit for you Basic Purpose of the Job Manages individualized, goal-directed nursing care for the PACU patient. The RN utilizes the nursing process and the principles of primary nursing in accordance with departmental and hospital policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • Must be a graduate of an accredited program of professional nursing either a four year degree Bachelor's Degree or a two year Associate's Degree.
  • Must possess current hospital experience (within past five years) or be a new nursing graduate (within last two years).
  • Licensed RN in the State of Idaho.
  • BLS Certified.
  • Understanding and following of hospital mission statement of high quality, high compassion, and high customer service.
  • Works collaboratively and positively with surgical staff, anesthesia staff, physicians, and staff from other departments.
  • Identifies physical symptoms and changes and takes appropriate action in a timely manner.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of airway management and procedures and the ability to use the equipment.
  • Demonstrates ability to assess cardio-respiratory systems for changes and provides appropriate treatment.
  • Observes behavioral and physiologic changes due to medications, takes appropriate actions and documents.
  • Carries out established techniques for safe administration of medications and parenteral fluids, according to Hospital policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of anesthetic drugs, actions and side effects.
  • Obtains, documents and assesses vital signs per policy standards.
  • Demonstrates ability to adequately assess and reassess pain.
  • Utilizes appropriate pain management techniques.
  • Educates the patient and family regarding pain management.
  • Closely observes patient with minimal disturbance.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in assessing the postoperative patient.
  • Demonstrate the knowledge and ability to care for patients who have undergone anesthesia.
  • Demonstrates/provides thorough understanding of the guidelines for patient discharge from the PACU.
  • Communicates effectively and thoroughly the patient’s condition upon transfer from PACU to the receiving unit Registered Nurse.
  • Makes decisions reflecting knowledge of disease and surgical conditions and the care required.
  • May be required to function as preceptor to new orientees.
  • Will work other units as needed after adequate orientation has been provided.

Nice To Haves

  • ACLS and PALS highly recommended.
