About The Position

The Rapid Response Nurse-RN utilizes the nursing process (assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation) to delegate, coordinate and provide safe, therapeutic nursing care to patients/families. This individual makes independent judgments/decisions and takes action regarding a wide range of routine and complex patient issues, operating under guidelines of the Rapid Response Team Protocols. The Rapid Response Nurse-RN collaborates with appropriate disciplines to coordinate continuity of patient care from admission through discharge in support of the medical and nursing plans of care. The Rapid Response Nurse-RN acts to support adult inpatient care needs within the facility. This includes the care of critically ill patients and transport from an inpatient unit to the ICU. He/she responds as Code Blue Nurse, promoting effective team interactions, patient assessment, ACLS interventions and complete/accurate documentation. The Rapid Response Nurse-RN responds to and assists with all codes as applicable per facility. The Rapid Response Nurse-RN provides house wide support for assessments, specialized equipment, medication administration and a variety of staff needs.

Requirements

  • Kansas Registered Nurse License
  • BCLS obtained through the American Heart Association
  • Valid AHA Advanced life support certification (ACLS)
  • NIHSS certification
  • Minimum of three (3) to five (5) years of experience as a Critical Care Registered Nurse
  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing or obtained within 4 years of employment

Responsibilities

  • Participates in critical patient transfers to/from outside facilities
  • Responds and assesses Patient needs for Rapid Response calls
  • Responds to all codes as applicable per facility
  • Assures that reportable events occurring within the department are properly reported to Risk Management within the time required by law
  • Assists Risk Management Department in identifying risks, analyzing cause/effects of incidents and in the investigation of incidents as may be required for legal purposes
  • Works with Risk Management Department in developing corrective action plans addressing trends or categories or risks/incidents
  • Implements actions, as appropriate, recommended by Performance Improvement activities and hospital-wide Quality Improvement Council (QIC)
  • Ensures compliance with core measure/HCAHPS composite benchmarks
  • Documentation meets criteria for core measure, charges, PI, and all quality/regulatory standards as measured by chart audits
  • Documents care accurately and timely
  • Assists in completing, monitoring, and evaluation of unit-based Performance Improvement activities
  • Promotes staff development through patient care assignments, acting as a clinical resource and role model, identifying educational needs and ensuring staff attendance at educational in-services
  • Encourages and supports front-line decision making
