About The Position

Overview The Quality Review Nurse (QRN) provides medical record reviews for cases identified as possible quality/safety concerns and/or meet pre-established criteria. QRNs use critical thinking, clinical knowledge and judgment to determine which records are referred for further review by a physician, typically the department chairperson. The QRN provides support to medical staff departments in terms of meeting preparation and orienting new physician regarding the peer review process. This position takes on a key role in managing and coordinating the Peer Review Process. The QRN assists with data analysis and report generation. Why UnityPoint Health? Requirements

  • Registered Nurse in Iowa
  • Two years of clinical nursing experience
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to influence and guide frontline employees, leadership, physicians and other external parties.
  • Strong oral and written presentation skills to a variety of audiences.
  • Use of usual and customary equipment used to perform essential functions of the position.

Responsibilities

  • Review cases using Epic and prepare charts for physician review using critical thinking, clinical knowledge and judgment to determine which cases should be reviewed by a physician.
  • Assists physician reviewers to use Just Culture Algorithm when reviewing cases.
  • For those cases referred to a physician, the QRN prepares a summary of the case and meets with department chair/designee to determine next steps up to and including referral to peer review committee.
  • Coordinates necessary correspondence to providers and follow-up documentation and tracking.
  • Attends and staffs various committees and department meetings (CMC, LDC, Peer Review).
  • Meets with department and committee chairs as necessary to plan agenda and staffs meetings.
  • Assist with various reports and processes such as FPPE, and re-credentialing.
  • Orientation of new physicians to peer review and other review processes.
