About The Position
The Registered Nurse - Psychiatric plays a critical role in delivering compassionate and comprehensive mental health care to patients across diverse psychiatric settings. This position involves assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating individualized nursing care plans to support patients experiencing mental health disorders. The nurse collaborates closely with multidisciplinary teams, including psychiatrists, social workers, and therapists, to ensure holistic treatment approaches that promote recovery and well-being. Additionally, the role requires continuous monitoring of patient progress, managing crises, and providing education to patients and their families about mental health conditions and coping strategies. Requirements
- Current and valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in the United States.
- Completion of an accredited nursing program (Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Nursing).
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Experience or clinical exposure in psychiatric or mental health nursing.
- Strong understanding of psychiatric disorders, treatment modalities, and nursing interventions.
Nice To Haves
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree.
- Certification in Psychiatric-Mental Health Nursing (PMHN-BC) or equivalent.
- Experience working in inpatient or outpatient psychiatric settings.
- Training in trauma-informed care and crisis intervention techniques.
- Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems specific to behavioral health.
Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive psychiatric and physical assessments of patients to identify mental health needs and risks.
- Develop, implement, and regularly update individualized nursing care plans in collaboration with the healthcare team.
- Administer medications and treatments as prescribed, monitoring for side effects and effectiveness.
- Provide crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques to manage acute psychiatric episodes safely.
- Document patient care activities accurately and maintain detailed records in compliance with legal and ethical standards.
- Educate patients and their families about mental health conditions, treatment options, and coping mechanisms.
- Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings to discuss patient progress and adjust care plans accordingly.
- Ensure a safe and therapeutic environment by adhering to facility policies and promoting patient rights.
