About The Position

The Registered Nurse - Psychiatric Floor 2 is responsible for providing skilled, creative, high-quality nursing care to patients by assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care on a 24-hour basis from admission to discharge. The role involves collaboration with other nursing staff and allied disciplines to ensure a safe and therapeutic environment for all patients. The nurse is accountable for directing and supervising the care provided by Mental Health Counselors and for utilizing financial, human, and material resources efficiently.

Requirements

  • Registered Nurse (RN) license.
  • Experience in psychiatric nursing preferred.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Knowledge of regulatory agency guidelines.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience in a mental health setting.
  • Certification in psychiatric nursing.
  • Bilingual skills.

Responsibilities

  • Support the hospital in a manner that demonstrates a strong commitment to quality patient care.
  • Serve as a preceptor for new employees and educate staff as needed.
  • Utilize supervision positively to enhance professional improvement and development.
  • Attend clinical meetings that positively impact patient care.
  • Maintain a solid understanding of hospital policies and protocols and enforce them when appropriate.
  • Participate in ongoing quality improvement studies for positive patient care outcomes.
  • Understand and follow regulatory agencies' expectations and guidelines (i.e., DMH, DPH, JCAHO, payors, etc.).
  • Assess, plan, and implement care based on observed symptoms, reactions, treatments, and changes in patient status.
  • Report and record findings to the MD and charge nurse.
  • Perform the role of medical nurse when assigned, assisting the consulting internist and Nurse Practitioner with exams and treatments.
  • Monitor the patient milieu for safety issues and promote a positive therapeutic environment.
  • Respond to patient care needs and assist with personal hygiene and activities of daily living.
  • Collaborate with and direct other nursing staff to assist with patient nursing needs.
  • Admit, discharge, and transfer patients ensuring safety and monitoring patient valuables.
  • Participate in treatment team meetings and develop plans of care.
  • Administer medications to assigned patients and monitor effectiveness.
  • Maintain yearly/biyearly requirements of CPR and Aggression Management.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
