About The Position

The RN (staff nurse) is directly responsible to the designated manager of the Progressive Care Unit (PCU); the RN, provides an environment for the delivery of care to clinically complicated and severely ill patients with acute and potentially life threatening, general medical, surgical and disease carrying multi-system failure in the adult population. They are responsible for assuring continuity of care for PCU patients implementing applicable disease management protocols as appropriate. The registered nurse possesses basic knowledge and skills to apply all aspects of the nursing process within a collaborative, interdisciplinary practice setting which will then enable effective implementation of health promotion and prevention practices, management of acute and chronic illnesses, and attainment of optimal levels of functioning and/or support of the dying patient and significant others. Interdisciplinary plans of care are developed, implemented, reviewed and revised as necessary. Nursing responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Role responsibilities and accountabilities also include demonstration of knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age-related needs of patients served in the assigned area of practice. This knowledge includes understanding changes associated with aging and principles of growth and development relevant to the adult and geriatric population.

Requirements

  • 1 full and unrestricted license from any US State or territory

Responsibilities

  • Assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient nursing care.
  • Initiate treatments, administer critical medications and monitors effects and patient progress.
  • Assists the critical care physician with procedures.
  • Identify sudden or subtle changes in a patient's medical condition.
  • Collaborate with PCU team and other health care professionals.
  • Respond to Rapid Response and Code Blue calls.
  • Deliver regular updates to doctors, patients, and their family members.
  • Operate technological equipment utilized on the unit.
  • Maintain complete and accurate computerized patient records.
  • Act as patient advocate.
  • May be required to cross-train and provide coverage in the ICU.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
