Job Summary and Responsibilities Perioperative Care Experts: RNs are heavily involved in the perioperative phase (before, and after surgery). This includes: Pre-operative preparation: This involves comprehensive patient education about their specific procedure, discussing what to expect, wound care instructions, medication management, and potential risks. They gather detailed medical histories, perform physical assessments, obtain informed consent, and ensure all pre-operative tests are completed and reviewed. Post-operative care and monitoring: This is a major procedural responsibility. RNs closely monitor vital signs, assess for complications (e.g., bleeding, infection, adverse reactions to anesthesia), manage pain, and provide immediate post-operative wound care. They teach patients and their families about post-operative care at home, including medication schedules, activity restrictions, and signs of complications to watch for. Documentation and Communication: A significant procedural aspect is meticulous documentation . RNs accurately record all patient interactions, assessments, procedures performed, medications administered, and any observed changes in a timely manner. They also facilitate crucial communication between the patient, surgeon, and other healthcare team members, ensuring a smooth flow of information and coordinated care. In essence, the RN in a plastic surgery clinic executes a series of structured and critical tasks that directly impact patient safety, comfort, and the overall success of the cosmetic or reconstructive procedure. They are the frontline implementers of the care plan, requiring a high degree of technical skill, critical thinking, and compassionate communication. In-clinic procedures: I nvolves assisting with and performing a variety of in-clinic procedures, including port/drain removals, wound/dressing changes, tissue expander fills, skin grafting, and skin excisions.

Requirements

  • Current Washington state Licensure as an RN
  • BLS from American Red Cross at time of hire
  • Bachelors of Schience of Nursing
  • Strong patient assessment skills, ability to work collaboratively in team setting.
  • Current working knowledgge of electronic medical records.
