About The Position

The Registered Nurse (RN) position in the Primary Care Department of Veterans Affairs is responsible for providing comprehensive nursing care to veterans in the Primary Care Clinic at the International Plaza Outpatient Clinic in Nashville, TN. The RN will work collaboratively with healthcare teams to ensure optimal patient outcomes, administer medications, and educate patients and their families about health management. This role requires adherence to infection control procedures and effective communication with various healthcare professionals.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens.
  • Graduation from a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate accrediting agency.
  • Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a state, territory, or commonwealth of the U.S.
  • Proficiency in basic written and spoken English.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in Primary Care and/or PACT (Patient Aligned Care Team) is highly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Establish nursing diagnoses and provide health education to patients and their families.
  • Administer and evaluate pharmacological and therapeutic treatment regimens.
  • Administer medications and injections, including vaccines.
  • Establish priorities and make ethically-sound decisions to ensure safe patient care.
  • Assist physicians during diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.
  • Respond to emergency situations and recognize changes in patients' health status.
  • Perform diagnostic studies as ordered by the physician.
  • Document patient data to ensure continuity of care.
  • Collaborate with other healthcare professionals and communicate with veterans and their families regarding care.
  • Manage follow-up care and act as a resource to others.
  • Participate in continuing educational activities and maintain certification.
