The Prep & Recovery Unit RN cares for patients who will be receiving anesthetic care and who are recovering from anesthesia after surgery. They monitor pre and post-operation vital signs, assess levels of consciousness, and carefully observe patients for any side effects from anesthesia.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program
  • New York State Registered Nurse licensure
  • Minimum education: Associates Degree in Nursing
  • BLS
  • At least six months - one year of critical care experience

Nice To Haves

  • ACLS, PALS (new hires have the opportunity to obtain these certifications during introductory period)
  • 1-3 years of Prep/Recovery experience
  • BSN
  • CPAN

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates ability to effectively prioritize both expected and unanticipated needs
  • Evaluates effectiveness of care giving, shows follow through on delivery, and demonstrates critical thinking skills by making appropriate clinical decisions, proactively addressing potential and actual problems, and executing compliant clinical documentation.
  • Performs and documents an accurate assessment on each assigned patient within established standard of care.
  • Able to recognize priorities within patient care and act accordingly.
  • Ability to problem solve and communicate accordingly.
  • Cross trained to prep and recovery.
