About The Position

The Pre-Op/Post-Op RN provides safe, high-quality nursing care to patients undergoing surgical procedures. This role includes preparing patients for surgery, monitoring patients during the recovery phase, and educating patients and their families on post-operative care. The RN ensures adherence to hospital policies, surgical protocols, and regulatory standards while maintaining a patient-centered approach.

Requirements

• Current RN license in [State].
• BLS, ACLS, and PALS certification required
• Strong assessment, critical thinking, and communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced surgical environment and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.
• Must be a graduate of a school of nursing with current LPN or RN license by the Arkansas State Board of Nursing.
• Current BLS Certification.
• Current TB test.
• Must pass WRMC Medication/Dosage Calculations Exam and IV Therapy Exam.
• Maintains annual unit specific competencies and education fair.
• Adheres to White River Health System's Standard of Behaviors.

Nice To Haves

• Previous perioperative nursing experience preferred, not required

Responsibilities

• Assess and document patient health history, vital signs, and pre-operative needs.
• Verify informed consent and surgical checklist completion.
• Educate patients and families about the surgical procedure, expectations, and post-operative care.
• Administer pre-operative medications as prescribed and monitor patient responses.
• Collaborate with surgical team, anesthesia providers, and other healthcare professionals to ensure patient readiness.
• Monitor patients’ vital signs, level of consciousness, pain, and surgical site condition in the recovery area.
• Recognize and respond promptly to post-operative complications or changes in patient condition.
• Provide interventions for pain management, nausea, and other post-operative symptoms.
• Educate patients and families on post-operative instructions, wound care, and activity restrictions.
• Document patient progress and communicate effectively with the surgical team regarding patient status.
• Ensure compliance with infection control, safety, and regulatory guidelines.
• Maintain accurate and timely patient records.
• Assist with equipment and supply management in pre-op and post-op areas.
• Participate in quality improvement initiatives and continuing education.
