The PreOp/PACU Nurse provides high-quality, evidence-based care to patients preparing for and recovering from anesthesia for a broad range of surgical and procedural interventions. Perioperative nurses play a critical role in providing safe, compassionate, and timely care while upholding all regulatory, safety, and organizational standards within the perioperative environment. The PreOp/PACU at our facility boasts 17 rooms specializing in patient care for before and after surgery. Surgical specialties supported include general surgery, orthopedics, women’s health, ear-nose-throat, plastics, oncology, urology and pain management services. Perioperative nurses must demonstrate strong critical-thinking skills to prepare patients for surgery along with manage unstable postoperative patients. The role requires the ability to rapidly assess, intervene, and escalate care to ensure patient safety during the perioperative encounter. Perioperative nurses work closely with anesthesia, surgical teams, and ancillary departments to maintain a safe and efficient patient care environment. This is a fast-paced environment that requires attention to detail and time management skills.
