About The Position

At Mayo Clinic, you will become a vital member of a dynamic team at one of the world's most exceptional health care institutions. Our Nursing Care Model combines Relationship-Based Care with an evidence-based approach, allowing for a stronger connection between patient and caregiver, and a more individualized, appropriate type of care. You will discover a culture of teamwork, professionalism, and mutual respect, and—most importantly—a life-changing career. The registered nurse (RN) is accountable for the coordination of nursing care, including direct patient care, patient/family education, and transitions of care. The RN supports professional nursing practice across practice settings and across the continuum of care to meet the needs of the patient and family. The RN will function within the Mayo Nursing Care Model, which includes accountability for planning, implementing, evaluating, and communicating all phases of nursing care for assigned patients. The ANA Nursing: Scope and Standards of Practice provide a basis for the practice of the RN. The RN provides leadership through activities such as preceptor role, informal and formal leadership roles, and quality improvement efforts. The RN delegates patient care according to skill level, experience, patient acuity, fiscal accountability, and availability of resources. The RN possesses excellent communication skills; is skillful in mentoring and teaching; and may participate on committees or projects. This role is eligible for TN sponsorship. Pre-Op/PACU Nurses at Mayo Clinic focus on the phases of patient care before and immediately following a surgical procedure, although they do not perform the actual surgery. This includes Pre-Op, Phase 1 PACU, and Phase 2 PACU. Responsibilities include assessing, quickly identifying, and resolving pre-operative issues, starting and monitoring IVs, administering pre-operative medications, and performing pre-operative instruction and explanation of patients' rights and procedures. In the PACU (Post Anesthesia Care Unit), the nurse will provide care for post-op patients recovering from general, regional, and local anesthesia. The Pre-Op/PACU department has 72 beds, 95 nurses, 11 patient care techs, and 8 clinical assistants, with a fast-paced unit utilizing critical care nursing concepts.
