About The Position

The Registered Nurse (RN) PreOp PACU II position at Mercy Outpatient Surgery Center involves providing high-quality nursing care to patients before and after surgical procedures. The role focuses on assessing patients' preoperative and postoperative status, managing recovery from anesthesia, and ensuring patient safety and comfort throughout the surgical process. The RN will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to deliver comprehensive care and support to patients and their families, while also participating in quality improvement initiatives.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an Accredited School of Nursing.
  • One year of Pre Operative or PACU experience required.
  • Current state licensure to practice within good standings.
  • Successful completion of Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 90 days of employment.
  • Successful completion of Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification within 90 days of employment.
  • Successful completion of Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification within 90 days of employment if pediatric care is included.

Responsibilities

  • Promote the mission, vision, and values of SCA.
  • Assess patient's preoperative and postoperative status according to facility policies.
  • Interpret information from various noninvasive and invasive monitors.
  • Describe the underlying pathophysiology of commonly encountered disease processes.
  • Develop an individualized perianesthesia plan of care.
  • Implement the plan of care for patient recovery from various anesthesia types.
  • Communicate the patient's current status throughout the perianesthesia continuum of care.
  • Provide acute pain and comfort management as needed.
  • Administer medications safely and correctly using the 8-rights of safe medication administration.
  • Perform interventions to maintain the integrity of the patient's wound and tissue perfusion.
  • Evaluate the patient's progress toward attaining outcomes and transfer care as needed.
  • Document nursing care completely, accurately, and legibly.
  • Collaborate effectively with other disciplines as needed.
  • Participate in quality review and performance improvement projects.
