About The Position

The Registered Nurse - Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) provides specialized care in the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care throughout the peri anesthesia continuum to include the Pre anesthesia Phase, Post anesthesia Phase I, Post anesthesia Phase II, and Extended Care from sedation/analgesia and/or anesthesia for surgical, diagnostic, or therapeutic procedures The RN - PACU delivers fundamental knowledge based care to assigned clients while developing technical skills; assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care based on age-specific and cultural components; and assume responsibility for the coordination of care focused on patient education, self-management, and customer satisfaction throughout the continuum of care.

Requirements

  • Licensure: 1 full and unrestricted license from any US State or territory

Responsibilities

  • Performs clinical assessment of the patient and readily recognizes contraindications for anesthesia and/or surgical intervention.
  • Safely and effectively manages the patient's recovery from anesthesia/sedation including but not limited to hemodynamic stability, airway management, and pain management.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in establishing intravenous (IV) access and managing IV infusions.
  • Utilizes Barcode Medication Administration (BCMA) to enhance patient safety.
  • Applies the appropriate post sedation scoring and assesses the patient's postoperative status to include cardiovascular system, respiratory systems, airway management needs, neurological system, mental status, hemodynamic stability, and pain and comfort needs, implementing appropriate interventions to maintain or return all physiological systems to baseline or above.
  • Responsible for ensuring comprehensive documentation of all phases of care and is timely, complete, and accurate in the electronic health record (EHR).
  • Maintains an awareness of ethical issues that impact the perioperative patient including informed consent, advanced directives, end of life care, and takes appropriate action when necessary.
  • Assumes responsibility for the coordination of care focused on patient education, self-management, and customer satisfaction throughout the continuum of care.
  • Provides effective education to prepare the client to continue care at home.
  • All other duties as assigned, pertaining to this occupation, to meet the needs of the Agency, Department, Facility, and/or Service.
