Join Our Team as an RN in Pittsburgh, PA! We are looking for a compassionate LPN to join our team in Pittsburgh, working alongside dedicated professionals. You will determine donor eligibility, manage donor adverse events, review laboratory test results, and notify donors of unsuitable test results. The Medical Support Specialist (Plasma Center Nurse) works under the guidance of the Center Manager for operational guidance and under the management of the Center Physician for medical issues. Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent, including graduate equivalent of a recognized educational nursing program with state requirements.
  • Currently licensed or certified in the state where responsibilities will be assigned: Registered Nurse (RN), Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA).
  • Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and AED certification.
  • Fulfill state requirements (in state of licensure) for basic IV therapy.
  • Satisfactorily complete the FDA approved training requirements for BioLife Medical Support Specialist.
  • Two years in a clinical or hospital setting.
  • Profound understanding of technical processes within one's specialty.
  • Extensive relevant working experience and any necessary certifications.
  • Ability to anticipate trends, connect disparate information, and coordinate activities that may impact areas outside your immediate remit.
  • Ability to handle complex assignments that necessitate a unique and specialized set of skills, leading not just the workflow but also ensuring the quality of technical processes.
  • Autonomous working style within established procedures, empowering to propose process enhancements and sometimes operate without predefined methods, guided by experience and organizational guidelines.

Responsibilities

  • Determine donor eligibility, including medical history interview, physical examination, blood testing, and reviewing Serological Protein Electrophoresis (SPE).
  • Manage informed consent, AIDS education, and confidential self-exclusion processes for donors.
  • Evaluate donor reactions and manage medical emergencies as outlined in SOPs, including following procedures for donor transport to emergency care facilities.
  • Refer to the Center Physician or Medical Affairs for guidance on medical or technical issues, including donor safety and eligibility, and for providing unacceptable findings to donors.
  • Support Hepatitis B and Seasonal Flu vaccination programs for employees.
  • Manage employee incidents and determine whether further evaluation is required by occupational health/ER, referring to EHS guidance.
  • Act as a Pandemic Coordinator when authorized by EHS and support investigations associated with pandemic threats within the local community.
  • Conduct comprehensive medical assessments to determine donor suitability with minimal guidance.
  • Respond effectively to donor medical emergencies, applying advanced knowledge of emergency care.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory standards for plasma collection and maintain detailed documentation.
  • Manage health and safety protocols, contributing to a safe environment for both donors and staff.
  • Perform accurate blood testing and laboratory analysis to assess donor health.
  • Analyze and interpret laboratory test results, making informed decisions regarding donor suitability.
  • Maintain accurate medical documentation, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Support public health initiatives by participating in vaccination programs and pandemic response efforts.
  • Provide thorough medical examinations, ensuring donor safety and eligibility.
  • Utilize medical history effectively to assess donor suitability and manage care.
  • Communicate effectively with donors and team members, ensuring clarity and understanding of medical processes.
