About The Position

The Registered Nurse in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) is responsible for providing safe and therapeutic care to critically ill patients ranging from neonates to adolescents. This role requires the utilization of the nursing process, which includes assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care. The nurse will function as a vital member of both the interdisciplinary and nursing teams, carrying out established nursing procedures and performing related duties as required. The PICU Registered Nurse will manage patient care in collaboration with physicians, Clinical Nurse Specialists (CNS), Respiratory Therapists, Child Life specialists, Social Workers, Nutritionists, and Discharge Case Managers. This position is critical in ensuring that patients receive comprehensive care tailored to their complex medical needs, while also providing support to their families during challenging times. The PICU is a 20-bed unit that specializes in the care of critically ill children, many of whom arrive through the nurse-managed Transport Team and Access Center. Nurses in this unit will develop the necessary skills to maintain vital functions for these fragile patients and will be expected to assist with the management of patient care administered by other nursing team members. The role requires flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Medical Center locations, ensuring that the highest standards of care are maintained across the board. The position is full-time, with a focus on night shifts, and involves a commitment to continuous learning and professional growth within a supportive and diverse environment.
