About The Position

The Registered Nurse PICC position at Good Samaritan Hospital involves providing professional nursing care with a focus on the placement and maintenance of Peripherally Inserted Central Catheter (PICC) lines and Midlines. Requirements

• Minimum of two years nursing experience in an acute care hospital setting required.
• Graduation from an accredited school of Nursing required; a bachelor's degree or master's degree in Nursing preferred.
• Current New York State RN licensure required.
• Current BLS required.
• Valid PICC Insertion Certification required.

Responsibilities

• Assess patients with difficult access or need for long term IV therapy for appropriate vascular access device.
• Work with staff nurses, physicians, case managers, and other team members to ensure early assessment for VAD selection and implementation.
• Participate in education with Vascular Access education with patients, family members, and staff.
• Review physicians' orders and obtain consent.
• Review medical records for any contraindications of peripheral vascular access.
• Determine the best vascular access device for the patient based on medications, current access status, diagnoses, length of IV therapy, etc.
• Report directly to the Systems Director of Infection Prevention & Control.
• Troubleshoot difficult complications of VADs or assist staff in troubleshooting.
• Document completely and accurately in the patient's permanent medical record.
