We are now hiring a Registered Nurse. The ideal candidate must demonstrate a commitment to support the clinic’s goals of providing each patient with a positive experience while receiving quality comprehensive eye care from the providers. The Registered Nurse (RN) provides perioperative nursing care in a fast-paced ophthalmology ambulatory surgery center (ASC). This position is cross-trained to function in Pre-Op, OR Circulating, and Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) roles. The RN collaborates closely with the surgical team to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality care for patients undergoing ophthalmic procedures.

Requirements

High school graduate or GED certificate recipient
Graduate of accredited school of nursing
Active RN license in the state where work will be conducted.
BLS and ACLS certification
Current surgical experience (within past 3 years)
Ability to make sound nursing judgment based on nursing theory.
Demonstrates primary nurse accountability through coordination, communication, and continuity of patient care.
Must be able to assess, prioritize, plan, and implement direct patient care.
Assumes responsibility for competency of practice and takes initiative for professional development and continuing education.
Working knowledge and experience in hospital or ambulatory surgery center including direct patient care.
Ability to adhere to work schedule and manage time appropriately.
Ability to utilize resources in a timely, organized, and cost-effective manner.
Knowledge of patient monitoring equipment.

Responsibilities

Pre-Operative Duties: Conduct patient assessments, verify surgical consents, allergies, and pre-operative documentation.
Start IVs, administer pre-operative medications per standing orders and anesthesia direction, perform patient education on surgical procedures and discharge expectations.
Coordinate with anesthesia providers, surgeons, and technicians to ensure readiness for surgery.
Intra-Operative (Circulating Nurse) Duties: Function as circulating RN in the operating room for cataract, glaucoma, retina, and ophthalmic procedures.
Maintain sterile field integrity and monitor aseptic technique.
Anticipate the needs of the surgical team and ensure accurate documentation of intra-operative care, implants, billing and supplies.
Handle specimens, counts, and surgical safety checklists per policy.
Communicate effectively with surgeons, scrub techs, and anesthesia staff to ensure a smooth surgical flow.
Post-Operative Duties: Receive patients into the PACU, monitor vital signs, airway, pain level, and surgical site condition.
Administer medications per standing orders and anesthesia direction.
Provide discharge teaching to patients and caregivers regarding post-operative medications, restrictions, and follow-up.
