Discovery is looking for a talented and passionate Apheresis Nurse to join our dynamic Donor Management team. As an Apheresis Registered Nurse, you will play a pivotal role delivering direct care to normal healthy donors undergoing blood and/or tissue collections in an outpatient setting. Requirements

  • Massachusetts Registered Nurse License
  • Associate’s degree or higher in Nursing
  • Current BLS/CPR certification
  • 1-2 years clinical nursing experience
  • Experience starting IVs is required
  • Excellent customer service skills

Nice To Haves

  • Prior oncology, Apheresis, blood bank, or infusion experience preferred but NOT required
  • Strong computer skills with knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Google Apps strongly preferred

Responsibilities

  • Review the donor schedule, prepare collection equipment, and coordinate workflow with front desk and clinical staff
  • Perform donor eligibility assessments, initiate IVs, conduct apheresis or blood collections, and closely monitor donor safety throughout procedures
  • Educate donors on the collection process, program expectations, and aftercare while delivering a high‑touch, positive donor experience
  • Initiate, perform, and complete donor collection procedures according to specified policies and standard operating procedures
  • Follow established process flow to ensure customer orders are fulfilled and shipped timely.
  • Perform and document pertinent assessments to establish donor eligibility and qualifications
  • Provide donor education as it relates to specific collection procedures ensuring the sustained reliability and safety of the donor base, this includes thorough explanation on collections process as well as reinforcement on commitment needed to program.
  • Ensure donor safety including managing adverse events during collection procedures
  • Acts as a resource person to other clinical team members
  • Ability to monitor daily schedule and coordinate daily workflow with front desk staff and perform all front desk duties as needed.
  • Perform daily functions of the lead RN in the absence of the lead RN. Including, act as clinical point of contact during audits or clinical investigations.
  • Lead continuous improvement of practices, processes and procedures to further donor satisfaction, compliance, documentation and efficiency.
  • Ability to analyze diagnostic laboratory data
