About The Position

The Registered Nurse at The Birthplace is responsible for the provision of basic nursing care to assigned patients in accordance with current FMC Standards of Care. The nurse administers and monitors therapeutic interventions proficiently and demonstrates proficiency in applying the nursing process to assigned patients and families. The role includes accountability for the outcomes of nursing care, collaboration with health team members, and direct supervision of other health team members in the implementation of the patient care plan. The nurse effectively delegates care to peers, Licensed Practical Nurses, Nursing Assistants, Orderlies, and other direct care givers consistent with their level of education and expertise. The nurse acts as an advocate for patients and families, practicing within accepted ethical and legal parameters of nursing.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 1 year of nursing experience.
  • Diploma in Nursing (Required).
  • Basic Life Support certification from the American Heart Association.
  • Registered Nurse license in the State of Massachusetts.
  • Certification in NRP and ACLS required by the end of orientation.

  • Performs comprehensive nursing assessments and uses professional judgment to obtain selective data.
  • Conducts ongoing assessments of assigned patients, recognizing subtle changes in health status.
  • Formulates detailed, realistic plans of care specific to each patient's identified needs.
  • Analyzes the psycho-social impact of illness and hospitalization on individuals and families.
  • Implements individualized plans of care proficiently and organizes own assignments.
  • Provides formal and informal teaching relevant to health care needs of patients.
  • Effectively implements and revises discharge plans.
  • Establishes ongoing evaluation and modification of patient care interventions.
  • Determines the effectiveness of nursing care.
  • Communicates pertinent patient information while maintaining confidentiality.
  • Acts as an advocate for patient families.
  • Assumes accountability for management of patient care and provides direct supervision to other health team members.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in teaching/learning principles.
  • Identifies own professional educational needs.
  • Promotes active participation in quality assurance research activities.
