About The Position

The PICU Registered Nurse provides specialized, high acuity nursing care to critically ill infants, children, and adolescents at Children’s Hospital of Michigan . This role requires advanced pediatric critical care skills, the ability to respond rapidly to clinical changes, and strong collaboration within a multidisciplinary team. The ideal candidate must have at least 2+ years of recent PICU experience and be available to start ASAP .

Requirements

  • Active Registered Nurse (RN) license (state specific).
  • Minimum 2+ years of recent PICU experience in a hospital setting.
  • Current BLS and PALS certifications.
  • Strong clinical assessment, critical thinking, and pediatric specific skills.
  • Experience with ventilator management, high acuity pediatric conditions, and intensive care monitoring.

Nice To Haves

  • BSN preferred (but not required).
  • Experience in a Level I pediatric trauma center or high acuity PICU.
  • Additional certifications (CPN, CCRNP) are a plus.
  • Excellent communication, teamwork, and family support skills.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver comprehensive, evidence based nursing care to critically ill pediatric patients.
  • Perform ongoing assessment, monitoring, and evaluation of patient status, including vital signs, respiratory support, hemodynamic stability, and neurological function.
  • Administer medications, infusions, blood products, and interventions in accordance with physician orders and hospital protocols.
  • Manage ventilators, central lines, arterial lines, and other specialized pediatric ICU equipment.
  • Respond quickly and effectively to emergencies, codes, and rapid clinical deterioration.
  • Provide emotional support, education, and clear communication to families and caregivers.
  • Collaborate with child life specialists to support patient comfort and mental well being.
  • Advocate for families and ensure culturally sensitive, family centered care.
  • Work closely with physicians, respiratory therapists, pharmacists, and allied health professionals.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary rounds and contribute to care planning.
  • Communicate changes in patient condition promptly and accurately.
  • Document all assessments, interventions, medications, and clinical notes in the EMR accurately and on time.
  • Follow all PICU, hospital, and regulatory safety standards, including infection prevention protocols.
  • Support quality improvement initiatives and evidence based practice standards.
