About The Position

The Registered Nurse position in the Pediatric Cardiology Clinic and Procedure Area at the University of Michigan involves providing safe and effective nursing care to patients with congenital and acquired heart diseases, ranging from newborns to adults. This role requires flexibility as it is a float position, assisting with the increasing workload of nurses in the department. Requirements

  • Current licensure to practice nursing in the State of Michigan.
  • Minimum of two years recent Critical Care RN experience, including providing moderate sedation and caring for Pediatric patients with Congenital Heart disease, or three years recent Pediatric PACU experience.
  • Demonstrated understanding of common congenital heart defects and indicated surgical corrections.
  • Ability to stand, walk, position, pull, and lift patients and objects for long periods.

  • Pediatric Cardio-Thoracic ICU experience
  • Procedural sedation experience
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification.

Responsibilities

  • Provide safe and effective nursing care to patients with congenital and acquired heart diseases.
  • Assist with pre and post-procedural care for patients undergoing cardiac catheterization and electrophysiology procedures.
  • Administer medications and monitor vital signs and EKGs for imaging studies, including echocardiograms.
  • Provide moderate sedation for pediatric patients during echocardiogram studies.
  • Collaborate with healthcare team members to deliver family-centered care.
  • Float to designated units in times of low census.
