About The Position

This is a full-time nursing position available from 7 PM to 7 AM. Under direction, the nurse will provide direct nursing care to patients utilizing the nursing process, perform technical nursing functions, and uphold the standard of practice of a professional nurse in caring for step-down patients.

Requirements

  • Associates degree from an accredited school of nursing required.
  • Louisiana licensed Registered Nurse required.
  • CPR certification required.
  • One year RN experience preferred.
  • Current knowledge of clinical practice.
  • Ability to operate and handle many kinds of complex equipment.
  • Ability to demonstrate clinical competence and maintain current knowledge in caring for adolescent through geriatric patients.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Knowledge of theory, principles, techniques, and practice of professional nursing; of scientific principles and nursing research; of preparation, administration, and actions of medications; of treatments and medical procedures; of counseling and teaching techniques; of medical equipment as it relates to patient care.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited school of nursing preferred.
  • ACLS certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Utilizes the nursing process as the basis for nursing care.
  • Provides direct patient care.
  • Performs nursing functions, applying professional skills.
  • Documents and maintains data on patient’s record.
  • Maintains a safe environment.
  • Applies basic teaching/learning concepts to patient education.
  • Provides for life support.
  • Acts as a patient advocate.
  • Cooperates as a member of the nursing unit, department, and overall hospital team.
  • Participates in performance improvement.
  • Delegates and/or supervises aspects of care to team members and reviews completion.
  • Performs related work as required.
  • Communicates pertinent data to appropriate parties.
  • Maintains patient confidentiality.
  • Conducts himself/herself effectively in stressful situations.
  • Approaches situations with distressed patients, families, and visitors in a calm, professional manner.
  • Collaborates with physicians and nurses to devise individualized care plans for patients.
  • Properly assesses and manages patient populations with appropriate intervention.
  • Administers intravenous medications and/or parenteral nutrition.
  • Administers blood products and evaluates patient response.
