About The Position

ATC Healthcare is seeking an experienced Progressive Care/Stepdown Registered Nurse (RN) for a busy 33-bed Stepdown unit. This unit cares for young adult through geriatric patients with complex and high-acuity medical conditions, including sepsis, STEMI, CHF, chest pain, COVID, stroke, renal failure, COPD, DKA, and multisystem failure. This is a fast-paced environment with frequent admissions and discharges, requiring strong clinical judgment, excellent teamwork, and the ability to manage multiple priorities. RNs must be comfortable monitoring and interpreting cardiac rhythms and managing titratable drips. The schedule is created by unit schedulers, and floating may be required to Med Surg, Inpatient Rehab, or Skilled Care.

Requirements

  • Active RN license (state or compact).
  • Minimum 2 years of recent Stepdown, PCU, or similar acute-care experience.
  • Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS.
  • Experience with titratable drips and cardiac monitoring required.
  • Must be able to interpret cardiac strips independently.
  • Must meet radius rule and facility screening requirements.
  • Proof of COVID-19 vaccination and recent tuberculosis test required.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience with EPIC preferred.
  • Must be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with frequent admissions/discharges.

Responsibilities

  • Provide high-quality nursing care to Stepdown/PCU patients with acute and complex medical needs.
  • Manage patient ratios of 1:4–5 while prioritizing safety, timely interventions, and effective coordination of care.
  • Monitor cardiac rhythms and interpret telemetry strips; respond promptly to changes in patient condition.
  • Administer and titrate drips, including Heparin, Amiodarone, Cardizem, Nitroglycerin, Insulin, IV antibiotics, and maintenance IV medications.
  • Manage respiratory support devices, including BiPAP and Airvo.
  • Perform frequent assessments, initiate bedside report, conduct hourly rounding, and support a positive patient experience.
  • Collaborate with CNAs (1:10 ratio), charge nurses, and the multidisciplinary care team.
  • Document all patient care accurately in EPIC.
  • Float as needed to Med Surg, Inpatient Rehab, or Skilled Care.
  • Complete required orientation: first week classroom training + two 12-hour floor shifts.
