The Patient Safety Manager-Registered Nurse (RN) executes position responsibilities that demonstrate leadership, experience, and creative approaches to management of complex patient care. The Patient Safety Manager collaborates with, trains, and directs patient safety activities of personnel within the facility, such as infection control professionals, risk managers and quality managers. Duties of the include, but are not limited to: Oversight of the patient safety program. Responsible for the documented outcomes at the program or service level. Program or service level outcomes must be broad and complex and can be demonstrated at any organizational level within a facility, Veterans Integrated Systems Network (VISN), or Veterans Affairs Central Office (VACO). Demonstrate sound decision-making and judgment and possess excellent interpersonal skills. Self-directed and influences care outcomes by collaborating with members of the interdisciplinary team and leading innovative process improvement initiatives. Responsible for providing clinical expertise and leadership regarding the patient safety program at VA Salt Lake City Healthcare System (VASLCHCS). Possesses up-to-date clinical knowledge to effectively impact all aspects of patient safety initiatives that include quality improvement, patient/staff education and development, risk management, safe patient handling and re-processing medical equipment. Assists the Patient Safety Team in planning, implementing, evaluating, and improving holistic care delivery using collaborative strategies with others while ensuring compliance with VISN and facility mission and nationally recognized standards of care. Provide guidance and assist in progression of VASLCHCS Patient Safety program goals. Development and administration of a facility patient safety program, establishing guidelines and criteria to assist staff in creating a culture of patient safety. Monitors processes related to Joint Patient Safety Reporting (JPSR) system, data, hospital-wide tracers, chart reviews, and process improvement functions. Compiles data and communicates information to VASLCHCS Executive Leadership in a format that is conducive for utilization in decision making, strategic planning and performance improvement. Troubleshoots issues related to quality of care and provides real time feedback to Chief Quality and Patient Safety Service. Rounds to evaluate patient care. Practice is based on the nursing process and evidence-based research. Compiles data and communicates information to VASLCHCS leadership in a format that is conducive for utilization in decision making, strategic planning and performance improvement. Rounds frequently to work with staff at the unit-level on patient safety improvement initiatives. Troubleshoots issues related to quality of care and provides real time feedback to VASLCHCS leadership. Responds on site in real time as incidents occur to investigate and prepare follow-up reports during administrative hours; follows-up next administrative day on occurrences during non-administrative tours. Other Duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • 1 full and unrestricted license from any US State or territory
