As a Registered Nurse (RN) in the Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU), you will play a critical role in the immediate post-operative care of surgical patients. Your responsibilities will include managing airway support, closely monitoring neurological and cardiac status, and responding promptly to any complications or side effects. You will provide initial wound care to the patients' surgical site and ensure patient stability during recovery. You will collaborate with the surgical and anesthesia team. This role includes on-call availability during select non-business hours which will be discussed in the interview.You will complete an age-appropriate assessment on each assigned patient and create a specific plan of care upon patient arrivalYou will obtain supplies, equipment, and medication needed for patient careYou will monitor the patient throughout the recovery phaseYou will identify and correct airway obstructions, ensure uninterrupted oxygen therapy, and extubate patientsYou will administer IV therapyYou will recognize and report variations in patient condition to the appropriate individuals (physician, anesthesiologist, clinical nurse coordinator)You will monitor patients for adverse reactions prior to transport from Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU)You will make rounds to check equipment cleanliness and appropriate storageYou will monitor narcotic and medication control

Requirements

  • Minimum of 1 year of clinical nursing experience as a Registered Nurse (RN) in PACU, ED, IMC, PCU or Critical Care- required
  • Associate's degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Current State of Texas Registered Nurse (RN) license or Compact Registered Nursing License. If Compact License, Texas license must be obtained within 90 days of hire
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification per St. David's Healthcare policy
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification per St. David's Healthcare policy

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) - preferred
