About The Position

The PACU Registered Nurse initiates a plan of care based on identified medical, surgical, and nursing diagnosis which is consistent with knowledge of illnesses, injuries, diseases, human behavior and outlined standards of care. The PACU Registered Nurse will direct and coordinate with other departments and ancillary personnel to provide a safe environment and a high standard of quality care. The PACU Registered Nurse provides nursing care to preoperative and postanesthesia patients and has charge of patient safety, provision of supplies, equipment, and maintaining asepsis.

Requirements

• State of California Registered Nurse license required
• American Heart Association BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications required
• Minimum of 1 year PACU experience preferred

Responsibilities

• Assess, instruct, & prepare patients prior to surgery
• Ensure that operative and informed consents are signed and correct
• Take and record vital statistics of patients to ensure readiness for surgical procedure
• Initiate IV's and ensure patients are informed about procedure
• Aware of patient needs and able to correlate physician's orders and diagnosis
• Post operatively assess patients condition and correlate Anesthesiologist's orders to patient needs
• Identifies interventions necessary for expected outcomes based on specific surgery, anesthesia, illness, injury or disease
• Individualizes care plan in PACU utilizing input from patient, family, Anesthesiologist, Surgeon, and O.R. nurse
• Documents patient care on clinical records on initial assessment to hospital and in the PACU according to policy
• Consistently presents accurate, concise reports to the O.R. nurse pre operatively and to the unit nurse post operatively
• Answer patient questions and ensure patient comfort
