Requirements

  • Associates of applied science of nursing from accredited institution
  • NYS Registered Nurse licensure
  • BLS
  • Repetitive use of hands and fingers (e.g., use of computer keyboard); may require lifting and carrying light loads (up to 40 lbs.), including boxes, equipment, unit-dose cassettes, and IV solutions and stooping and kneeling (e.g., to pick up items from the floor, to remove and replace items on lower shelves, and to file documents in lower file drawers); sitting, walking, or standing for long periods of time (4-8 hours) is often necessary; must be able physically to operate the equipment used for the job.

Responsibilities

  • Administer intravenous (IV) infusions, subcutaneous injections, and other specialized therapies as ordered by the physician, ensuring adherence to established protocols.
  • Monitor patients during infusion treatments to assess for reactions or complications, and respond appropriately to emergencies.
  • Provide patient education regarding the infusion process, expected side effects, self-care instructions, and medication management.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed patient records, documenting treatment progress, outcomes, and any adverse reactions.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams to develop and implement care plans tailored to the individual needs of each patient.
  • Ensure the preparation and handling of medications is in accordance with safety guidelines and regulatory standards.
  • Assist with the coordination of infusion appointments, patient flow, and scheduling to optimize care delivery.
  • Provide emotional support to patients and their families, addressing concerns and answering questions throughout the treatment process.
  • Adhere to infection control protocols, maintaining a sterile environment and ensuring patient safety at all times.
  • Stay current with the latest evidence-based practices in infusion therapy and nursing procedures.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives, clinical audits, and continuing education opportunities to enhance care delivery and professional growth.
