About The Position

The Registered Nurse (RN) position at Mass Eye and Ear (MEE) in Boston, MA, is a per diem role focused on providing high-quality nursing care in various specialized units, including the Emergency Department, Operating Rooms, Inpatient Units, Hyperbaric Oxygen Unit, Medical Evaluation Center, and Pediatric Units. The RN will utilize the nursing process to assess, diagnose, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care while collaborating with a multidisciplinary team. This role requires strong critical thinking, communication, and interpersonal skills to manage complex patient needs effectively.

Requirements

  • Graduated from an accredited School of Nursing.
  • Licensed and currently registered as a professional nurse in Massachusetts.
  • A minimum of 2-3 years of medical/surgical nursing experience preferred, depending on the unit.
  • Strong critical thinking skills and the ability to manage complex patient care.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain professional nursing standards and demonstrate competence in patient care.
  • Utilize the nursing process for continuous assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care.
  • Direct and guide ancillary personnel while upholding nursing practice standards.
  • Collaborate with interns, residents, fellows, and attending physicians in various departments.
  • Provide comprehensive care to patients with surgical and/or medical conditions of the eyes, ears, nose, and throat.
  • Handle emergency situations and work independently in the Hyperbaric Oxygen Unit.
  • Evaluate preoperative optimization of scheduled surgical patients in the Medical Evaluation Center.
  • Assess, plan, implement, evaluate, and document nursing care for pre and post-operative surgical patients in the PACU.
