About The Position

The Registered Nurse (RN) in the Operating Room (OR) at the Buffalo, NY VA Medical Center is responsible for providing direct patient care in a perioperative setting. This role involves managing the surgical experience across preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative phases, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and VHA guidelines. The RN will demonstrate leadership and utilize evidence-based practices to coordinate care and optimize patient outcomes in a complex surgical environment.

Requirements

• Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States.
• Graduate of a school of professional nursing accredited by an appropriate accrediting agency.
• Proficiency in English, both written and spoken.
• Experience in perioperative nursing practice, particularly in the Operating Room.

Nice To Haves

• Previous experience in the OR scrub role.
• Demonstrated experience in sterile technique.
• One year of Operating Room RN experience with multi-specialty service competence.
• Previous Charge Nurse experience in a surgical setting.
• Effective interpersonal relationship skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care in the Operating Room during all phases of the surgical experience.
• Conduct preoperative assessments and postoperative evaluations.
• Organize and coordinate clinical components of patient care in response to individual healthcare needs.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary team members to develop and implement patient care plans.
• Utilize resources effectively to ensure safe and efficient healthcare delivery.
• Maintain knowledge of regulatory requirements and compliance guidelines related to surgical care.
