About the Position POSITION: Registered Nurse - Operating Room EMPLOYMENT TYPE: Casual (as-needed basis) WORK SCHEDULE: D DEPARTMENT: Surgical Services Internal Posting Through: 4/21/2026 Overview: A clinically competent, registered, professional nurse who has demonstrated expertise in the perioperative field. Effectively delivers perioperative care to the surgical/endoscopic patient through the nursing process of assessment, planning, intervention, implementation, and evaluation.

Requirements

  • Current Licensure with the Minnesota Board of Nursing.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing and 2 years of OR RN experience preferred.
  • OR RN experience and/or
  • Clinical experience as a Certified Surgical Technologist, and/or
  • Successful completion of a Peri-operative course (AORN or CCI) or equivalent
  • BLS and ACLS certifications or ability to attain within six months and maintain certification.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage large volumes of multiple patient/family/staff/physicians/priorities within short time frames and organize workload; includes critical thinking, delegation skills, and respectful communication.
  • Experience in assessing the individual needs of adult, geriatric, adolescent, and pediatric patients and their families undergoing operative or other invasive procedures, while developing appropriate plans of care.
  • Ability to report to the hospital within thirty minutes of notification for call-outs.
  • Demonstrated ability to follow and adhere to Grand Itasca Clinic and Hospital policies, vision, mission and values.

Responsibilities

  • Collects patient health data that are relevant to the operative or invasive procedure, analyzes the data to determine nursing diagnosis and identifies expected outcomes that are unique to the patient.
  • Develops and implements an individualized plan of care to attain expected outcomes and evaluates the patient’s progress toward attaining outcomes.
  • Systematically evaluates the quality and appropriateness of nursing practice. Communicates professionally and effectively with patients, families, co-workers, healthcare team members, and ancillary departments to ensure “Patient Centered” coordination of care.
  • Acquires and maintains specialized knowledge and skills in nursing practice and evaluates his or her practice in context with current professional practice standards, rules and regulations. Maintains a working knowledge of the AORN and Joint Commission standards.
  • Assigned call for weeknights, holidays, and weekends in an equal rotation with other OR nurses.
  • Interacts with and contributes to the professional growth of peers and colleagues. Participates in performance improvement activities in the unit and organization. Incorporates research findings into practice.
  • Provides leadership in the profession and professional practice setting. Collaborates with and delegates to ancillary/professional staff as appropriate; assures adherence to their scope of practice, considering licensure and/or certification.
  • Collaborates with the patient and designated support person(s) when practicing professional nursing.
  • Care and management of endoscopy and surgical patients. Considers factors related to safety, effectiveness, efficiency, and the environment as well as cost in planning, delivering, and evaluating patient care.
  • Assigned service line responsibilities by the Director of Surgical Services.
  • Uses ethical principles to determine decisions and actions.
  • Participates in staff meeting, committees, and special projects; actively contributes to Surgical Services quality and development.
  • Maintains reliable and consistent attendance.
