About The Position

The Operating Room (OR) Registered Nurse (RN) functions as an integral member of the surgical team. The Operating Room (OR) Registered Nurse (RN) interface with patients, surgeons, and anesthesia staff in the surgical setting. The OR-RN implements the pre operative plan of care, demonstrating knowledge of the responsibilities of the RN pre-operatively, intra-operatively and post operatively.

Responsibilities

• Able to scrub and circulate surgical procedures independently
• Responsible for supervising care given and services rendered in the Operating Room (OR) by other professional and non professional staff.
• Responsible for maintenance, care and use of equipment used; and applying principles of asepsis, therapeutic, and technical knowledge to ensure a safe environment for patients and staff.
• Assists in orientation of rotating surgical and anesthesia residents, and other nursing staff.
• Consistently documents nursing interventions and provides patient and family teaching.
• Participates in in-services, journal club presentations, and Performance Improvement (Pl) activities.
• Responsible for maintenance, care and use of equipment used, applying principles of asepsis, therapeutic and technical knowledge to ensure a safe environment for patients and staff.
• Participates in in-services, journal club presentations, and Total Quality Improvement (TQI) activities.
