About The Position

Baystate New England Orthopedic Surgery Center is an ambulatory surgery center located in Springfield, MA. With eight operating rooms, the center delivers high-quality, cost-effective outpatient surgical care across multiple specialties, including orthopedics (total joint, hip, knee, hand, shoulder, spine, foot and ankle), sports medicine, and podiatry. The center is proudly partnered with Compass Surgical Partners, a national leader in developing and managing ambulatory surgery centers across the U.S. Role Summary: The Operating Room RN provides direct patient care and serves as a patient advocate throughout the perioperative process. This role supports surgeons and anesthesia providers to ensure patient safety, comfort, and dignity before, during, and after surgery. The Charge Nurse provides clinical leadership on the unit, coordinating patient care, supervising nursing staff, and ensuring efficient operations. This role serves as a resource for the team, promotes patient safety, and supports quality care delivery.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree or bachelors of science in nursing
  • Current RN license
  • BLS and ACLS certifications required
  • Operating Room Experience; minimum 1 year
  • Strong clinical judgment, organizational skills, and communication abilities
  • Strong teamwork, organization, and communication skills
  • Ability to lift/move up to 50 lbs routinely and up to 100 lbs occasionally
  • Basic computer proficiency (Microsoft Windows environment)

Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily unit operations, ensuring smooth patient flow and optimal staffing coverage
  • Assign patient care responsibilities to nursing staff and monitor workload distribution
  • Provide direct patient care as needed, including assessment, interventions, and documentation
  • Serve as a resource and mentor for staff, supporting professional development and education
  • Collaborate with physicians, allied health professionals, and other departments to coordinate patient care
  • Monitor adherence to policies, procedures, and safety standards
  • Support patient safety, risk-management, and quality-improvement initiatives
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, and team members to ensure continuity of care
  • Participate in staff meetings, committees, and performance improvement activities
