About The Position

The RN OR Educator at IU North supports the development, implementation, and evaluation of educational programs focused on perioperative nursing, emergency response, and surgical best practices. This role collaborates with OR leadership and Nursing Professional Development staff to foster continuous learning, clinical excellence, and regulatory compliance. The educator serves as a resource for new hire orientation, staff development, and special projects aimed at enhancing OR safety and performance.

Requirements

  • Requires 3-5 years of relevant OR experience.
  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Requires an active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Indiana or an active Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) RN license.
  • Requires current organizational-specified CPR, Advanced Cardiac Life Support, and Pediatric Advanced Life Support certifications.
  • Requires knowledge of adult learning principles, regulatory requirements, and educational program management.
  • Requires proficiency in Microsoft Office and software applications.
  • May require the ability to travel to within state of Indiana.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, nurturing personality, and ability to hold staff accountable

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in OR education or staff development.
  • Knowledge of surgical procedures and perioperative safety.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and evaluate evidence-based perioperative educational curricula.
  • Support operational activities in partnership with OR managers, NPDs, and leadership.
  • Facilitate a positive learning environment through coaching, mentorship, and 1:1 support for staff, including new hires and struggling team members.
  • Coordinate and administer the Association of Perioperative Registered Nurses (AORN) Perioperative 101 program, providing a foundational orientation for new OR nurses and non-nursing staff.
  • Assist in maintaining regulatory compliance and support certification standards.
  • Collaborate on staff development initiatives and participate in performance assessments.
  • Support the onboarding process for CSTs, OR Assistants, and perioperative RNs.
  • Maintain current knowledge of OR practices, adult learning principles, and regulatory requirements.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of perioperative practices through education and compliance efforts.
  • May require travel within Indiana for training and organizational needs.
