Requirements

  • Graduate of an approved school of nursing, BSN preferred.
  • Currently licensed in the state of TX, RN.
  • BLS required.
  • Minimum two (2) years' experience in the operating room setting.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure that patient-flow through the Operating Room phase is accomplished in an organized and efficient manner with emphasis on providing high quality patient care.
  • Coordinate daily, weekly, and monthly staffing plans consistent with ensuring effective and reliable operations within the surgical setting.
  • Disseminate information from leadership to the OR staff and from the OR staff to department management.
  • Delegate and oversee operational activities, including daily staffing assignments and training of staff to the care of the patient in the operating room setting.
  • Act as a primary resource and provide guidance to licensed and non-licensed personnel.
  • Ensure that physician preference cards are appropriately maintained and accurate.
  • Collaborate with Material Management, Radiology, and Sterile Process departments to ensure adequate resources are available and allocated to meet demand of the surgical schedule.
  • Collaborate with the Quality department and infection control RN to ensure adherence to regulatory mandates and evidence-based practice standards.
  • Act as a patient advocate in meeting physical and psychological needs.
  • Perform patient assessment and reassessment immediately upon admission and on a regular basis in accordance with standards of care.
  • Ensure that all nursing interventions and patients' responses are communicated to responsible practitioners as indicated.
  • Take emergency call and/or after hours call as assigned.
  • Understand best practices and apply them to improve patient outcomes.
  • Integrate and coordinate care across settings and among disciplines.
  • Implement physician's orders effectively and safely in accordance with standards of practice.
  • Utilize special precautions in the direct care and in the supervision of care provided to sedated patients.
  • Document all records according to established policies and procedures.
  • Assist with reviewing and updating policies and procedures.
