About The Position

Provides specialized professional nursing care for patients receiving chemotherapy, immunotherapy, biologics, transfusions, specialty medications, and care of implanted intrathecal pumps. Under general supervision, the Registered Nurse delivers safe, high-quality, patient-centered care in accordance with nursing standards, departmental guidelines, and hospital policies. Serves as a patient advocate while collaborating with physicians, patients, families, and interdisciplinary teams to support continuity of care.

Requirements

  • Associates Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited school of nursing required.
  • Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Nebraska.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certifications
  • Knowledge of professional nursing practice and patient care standards.
  • Proficiency with vascular access devices and implanted intrathecal pumps.
  • Knowledge of chemotherapy, hazardous medications, and side effect management.
  • Ability to recognize abnormal lab values in immunocompromised patients.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and critical-thinking skills.
  • Commitment to ongoing learning and professional development, particularly in oncology and infusion nursing.
  • Three (3) years of nursing experience preferred.

Nice To Haves

  • Chemotherapy Administration Course and/or Oncology or Infusion Nursing Certification preferred (or willingness to obtain).
  • Hematology/Oncology nursing experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Performs and documents accurate patient assessments and maintains current medical records.
  • Delivers nursing care in compliance with physician orders and hospital policies.
  • Administers chemotherapy, immunotherapy, biologics, transfusions, and specialty medications via oral, IM, IV, SQ, and intrathecal routes per policy.
  • Utilizes and monitors peripheral IVs, central venous access devices, and implanted intrathecal pumps.
  • Reviews lab and radiology results and collaborates with providers as needed.
  • Monitors medication dosing, side effects, and potential toxicities; educates patients and families.
  • Coordinates patient care needs and scheduling.
  • Provides direct patient care using advanced clinical and technical skills.
  • Maintains timely, accurate documentation in the electronic medical record.
  • Acts as a resource for patients, families, physicians, and staff.
  • Responds effectively and calmly in emergency and code situations.
