About The Position

The Nurse Manager of the Nursing Residency Programs at the Department of Veterans Affairs South Texas VA Health Care System is responsible for overseeing the Residency Programs, ensuring they meet their mission, goals, and expected outcomes. This role involves assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating the programs while adhering to established policies and guidelines. The Nurse Manager collaborates with various stakeholders to facilitate the transition from academia to clinical practice and promotes a culture of accountability and high-quality care within the organization.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens.
  • Graduation from a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate accrediting agency.
  • Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a state, territory, or commonwealth of the U.S.
  • Proficiency in basic written and spoken English.

Nice To Haves

  • At least 3 years of nursing experience in the VA demonstrating progressive leadership and accountability.
  • Excellent communication skills and computer skills.
  • Experience in Program Development.

Responsibilities

  • Accountable for the Nursing Residency Programs in achieving its mission, goals, and expected outcomes.
  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate the programs based on established policies and guidelines.
  • Establish program initiatives and direction within limitations of available staff and budget.
  • Contribute to education for the transition from academia to clinical practice and integration into the organization.
  • Administer a data-driven plan for appraising the effectiveness of programs and disseminate outcomes.
  • Engage in professional organizations to enhance leadership and career growth.
  • Ensure compliance with accreditation and regulatory standards and align nursing objectives with organizational strategic outcomes.
  • Promote an inclusive workplace valuing diversity to achieve the organization's vision and mission.
